The Leviton Foundation Donates $100,000 to Burke County United Way for Hurricane Helene Relief

Morganton, NC, October 3, 2024 – Burke County United Way (BCUW) is proud to announce a generous donation of $100,000 from The Leviton Foundation to support relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Helene in Burke County. Representatives from BCUW met with Leviton leadership on Thursday, October 3rd, to formally accept the donation, which will be used to meet both immediate and ongoing needs in our community.

“This donation will be directed toward addressing the greatest needs in Burke County as a result of Hurricane Helene,” said Maureen “Mo” Schwind, Executive Director for BCUW. “The recovery process will be long, but thanks to this substantial contribution, we can make both an immediate impact on the lives of those hardest hit by this disaster in our community while also developing a longer range recovery plan.”

The Leviton Foundation provides support to the communities where its employees live and work, particularly in times of crisis. In a joint statement, Don Hender, Chairman of the Board, and Daryoush Larizadeh, President and CEO of Leviton Manufacturing Company, said:

Local Leviton management played a key role in selecting Burke County United Way (BCUW) as the recipient of this donation, ensuring that the funds would directly and immediately support disaster relief efforts in the community. Leviton leadership expressed confidence in BCUW's ability to effectively use the funds for hurricane relief, emphasizing that it brings them comfort knowing their contribution will provide vital necessities to residents impacted by the storm.

BCUW will allocate the funds toward critical relief efforts, supporting families and individuals affected by the storm and working to rebuild and restore the community over the long term.
