Burke County United Way and Paramount Hyundai Valdese Give Away a New Car

Morganton, NC - Burke County United Way (BCUW), in partnership with Paramount Hyundai Valdese, held their Car Giveaway Event at noon on December 21, 2023, at Paramount Hyundai of Valdese.

In the weeks leading up to the event, 12 finalists were drawn at random. BCUW donors of $100 or more in 2023 were given the chance to opt in for a chance to win a brand new 2023 Hyundai Tucson, generously donated by Paramount Hyundai Valdese. At the giveaway event, representatives from BCUW, Paramount Automotive, friends, family members and employers of the 12 finalists gathered around the winning vehicle which was parked inside the Paramount showroom. All 12 finalists randomly drew a number between 1-12, which put the finalists into a new order. Then in their new order, each finalist randomly drew a key fob from a Christmas stocking; only one key fob would start the car. Each finalist then got to sit in the winning Hyundai Tucson and attempt to start the car until there was a winner. After three unsuccessful attempts, the car was successfully started by the fourth and winning finalist, Emily Elder.

A Morganton resident, Emily Elder, has been a donor for nearly four years. “Donating to BCUW allows me to feel like I am supporting my community's greatest needs.  I may not personally know what those needs are at any one time, but I trust that BCUW does and that they will apply my monthly donation where it can do the greatest good. Being a finalist and then winner in the 2023 car giveaway has been beyond exciting and gratifying. I am loving my new Hyundai Tucson! Sale of my previous vehicle has allowed me to make a large donation to our local animal shelter so that local animals in need benefit from this amazing win as well!”

The 2023 Car Giveaway was the first of its kind for Burke County United Way, created to encourage community support, recognize the generosity of donors, and raise funds for BCUW’s Strong Families Initiative, which offers vital programs that improve the lives of individuals and families in Burke County. BCUW wishes to thank Lowdermilk Church & Co LLP for overseeing and certifying the finalist selection process. BCUW also expresses deep gratitude to Paramount Automotive owner, Benny Yount, and COO Nick Kincaid, as well as Paramount Hyundai Valdese General Manager Russell Childers for their generous partnership and dedicated support, not only to BCUW but to the larger collected Burke County Community.
