Celebrating Our Partnership With SGL Carbon
In late September 2019, Burke County United Way celebrated our long-standing partnership with SGL Carbon Corporation.
"SGL Carbon has been a generous community partner. Our electronic records go back to 1997. Since that time, SGL Carbon and its employees have contributed $ 388,237.00" said "Mo" Schwind, Executive Director.
Their monetary investments have assisted us with meeting needs and creating a positive impact for our community for more than 20 years. SGL Carbon’s investment has allowed our partner agencies and their programs to feed the hungry; house the homeless and provide transitional housing and case management services; receive primary and dental care for the uninsured; provide substance use/misuse education, treatment, and prevention; build handicap ramps for persons with mobility issues; offer literacy tutoring and workforce development training; foster positive adult role models to mentor youth in our community; provide rape and sexual assault advocacy, education and therapy; deliver arts and cultural education and camps for impoverished youth; payment of utility assistance through Emergency Food and Shelter Funds; funds for Special Olympics and Ther-equine therapy for persons with developmental disabilities; support for Rotary HUGS project to provide undergarments and socks to Burke County Public School students.
“SGL Carbon has maintained a longstanding commitment to Burke United Way for many years. Our employees view the United Way as a valuable part of our community and we have responded with voluntary contributions totaling $388,237 since 1997. We are committed to continuing this important relationship for years to come,” said Mark Lundblad, Site Manager at SGL Carbon.
In addition to their monetary contributions, SGL Carbon and its employees have been instrumental in participating in two additional United Way partner assisted programs. Company employees donated school supplies for the community Build-A-Backpack program which annually helps more than 1,000 school students start the academic year with a new backpack filled with school supplies. This year, SGL Carbon will also help fulfill children’s Christmas wishes through donations of toys for the Toys for Tots Program. United Way works collaboratively with the Marine Corp League’s Toys for Tots program which helped more than 500 children last year.
SGL Carbon’s commitment to United Way and the Burke County community demonstrates the value of working to meet community needs. We are proud to partner with this great company and its employees.
