Burke’s Amazin’ Race is a team-based community scavenger hunt across Downtown Morganton, on Saturday, April 12, 2025!
Race: 3:00 - 5:30 PM in Downtown Morganton
Afterparty: 5:30 - 7:00 PM on the Historic Courthouse Square
Awards: 6:30 PM
Teams must consist of 3 to 6 members and all members must be 21+. Please read ALL Rules & Regulations, Disclosure & Media Agreement, and Race Details below before registering your team. You will be asked at the end of registration to sign that you and your team members have read them all.

1. You must be 21 and older to participate.
2. Teams consist of 3 to 6 members.
3. Team members must be established upon registration. No adding of members or “unofficial members” is allowed after the race has already started.
4. No pets or anyone under 21 is allowed to come along during the race.
5. All team members must work together to complete each mission. You may not split up to “divide” tasks. Your team must always stay together (with the exception of team captains checking in at the beginning and end).
6. All missions are completed on foot and will be located in the Downtown Morganton area.
7. At least one smart phone per team is required to be able complete missions on the official race app.
8. Each team will be given a wearable lanyard with their team name. Every mission including photo clue MUST include the lanyard in the photo.
9. Each team member will receive an armband which must be worn the entirety of the race and to gain admission to the afterparty and awards celebration (this is also marks that each team member is 21 or over).
10. The race will continue rain or shine; no registration fee refunds.
11. Cheating, stealing, sabotaging, removing hidden items, or breaking the law will result in automatic disqualification.
12. If/when talking or interacting with strangers, business owners, or community workers, all participants must be polite and respectful. You don't want any complaints that may ruin the scavenger hunt for other teams or limit our ability to plan future events.
13. Always obey the law. If you break any laws at any time during any portion of the scavenger hunt, your team will be disqualified. Please no jaywalking –follow all pedestrian laws when travelling around on foot.
14. The rules are the rules. The decisions of the event hosts are final.
15. Your team captain is required to check back in at the welcome table on the Historic Courthouse Square by 5:45 pm or your team will be disqualified. No exceptions.
16. All team members must be present at the After Party to receive prizes awarded. Teams must stay on the premises after the race is over or else forfeit any awards.
Points can be deducted for:
o Not following mission directions fully
o Inappropriate behavior & language and/or photos/videos
o Any other infractions deemed inappropriate by the host(s)

1. In consideration of the permission to participate in Burke’s Amazin’ Race (referred to as “the event”), the Team Captain and all participating team members according to the team registration form agree to release and hold harmless Burke’s Amazin’ Race, Burke County United Way and the associated volunteers and sponsors thereof from any and all liability for personal injury, death, property damage or loss, or any other loss resulting from or arising out of my participation in the event.
2. Participation in the event includes, but is not limited to the risk of serious injury (or potential death) from walking to/from various locations in the Downtown Morganton area or the conduct of other participants, including their negligence or willful misconduct.
3. I certify that I will abide by all rules and regulations of the event. I further acknowledge that failure to abide by all safety rules and the direction of staff or volunteers may result in my being disqualified from participating in the event and forfeiting eligibility for event prizes.
4. I also agree to release Burke County United Way, the event and its volunteers and sponsors from any and all liabilities, claims, and causes of action, based on or arising from negligence or gross negligence on the part of its agents, volunteers and employees.
5. I acknowledge that I have read and understand the provisions of this release and understand that it is binding upon myself and my assigns, heirs, executors, beneficiaries, family members, and derivative claimants. I further acknowledge that I have no medical history or condition that would preclude me from participating in the event.
6. Limitations of Liability: Each participant agrees (i) to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and the decisions of the Burke’s Amazin’ Race committee which are final and binding on all matters relating to the event, and (ii) to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless Burke County United Way, the Burke’s Amazin’ Race and volunteers, the City of Morganton and cosponsors from any & all claims, actions, and/or liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in and/or for entry into the event, any related activities, or acceptance or use of any prize won.
7. Burke County United Way reserves the right to amend or modify any of the above without the consent of the participant.
8. (Media Release Agreement) I authorize the use of my voice, photograph, likeness, performance and/or name and biography by Burke County United Way, the staff, or Board of Directors in connection with any use of a product or marketing material arising out of my participation in a Burke County United Way Collaboration, Event or Program. I authorize Burke County United Way to obtain and hold copyrights in such Program and products.
I understand that Burke County United Way has no obligation to produce the product or marketing material using my likeness, and that I will receive no monetary compensation for the rights granted herein.
RACE details
You must fill out the registration form (above!) and pay $35 per participant to compete. Burke’s Amazin’ Race is a fundraiser supporting Burke County United Way’s Strong Famiilies Programs
All teams must consist of three (3) to six (6) members, aged 21 or older.
By registering, each team member gains access to the race event and phone app, and admission to the afterparty and awards celebration (including food and beverage).
Teams will receive access to the race phone app at check in. All race “missions” will be kept up with through the phone app (Goosechase).
The object of Burke’s Amazin’ Race is for each team to get as many points as they can. To do this, they will complete as many “missions” as they can. Teams will be able to strategize by deciding which “missions” they want to complete and in what order. Other opportunities for points are listed below.
This race will take place on foot, around the Downtown Morganton Area.
The race begins at 3:00 PM and ends at 5:30 PM. The race in the phone app will also automatically end at 5:30 pm.
Team Check-In is between 2:15 pm and 2:45 pm on April 12, 2025 at the stage on the Historic Courthouse Square in Morganton.
Team Captains must return by 5:45 PM to do their Final Check-In.
Upon checking in before the race, teams will be given a packet including arm bands for each member which must be warn during the race and for admission to the afterparty and awards celebration after the race. Teams will also receive a wearable lanyard with their team name and an assigned starting location. Teams must stay together during race missions (no dividing and conquering)! The team lanyard must be visible in all uploaded pics or video missions in the app.
Peer Fundraising: Teams will be encouraged to raise funds and earn additional points for their team; monies will be due on day of event at Check-In. 1 point is added per $1. raised.
Teams will need at least $5 in cash on hand for certain missions.
Registration is limited. Participants must register by midnight on April 1, 2025.

Most Creative Completion of a Mission

*All 1st-3rd team members will receive prize medallions created by a local artist, TBA!
