Emergency Food and
Shelter Program (EFSP)

BCUW has been chosen to receive $37,094 to supplement emergency food & shelter programs in Burke County.
The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the US Department of Homeland Security's Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
A local board made up of representatives from across the county will determine how the awarded funds will
be distributed to local emergency food and shelter programs. 


in a cooperative effort with Burke County Public Schools, The Outreach Center and Walmart and The Outreach Center BCUW provided 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students.  The annual Build-a-Backpack project brings students and families together to gather backpacks, enjoy a free lunch, free haircuts and play on the bounce units. 

Burke Cares (Continuum of Care)

BCUW is actively involved in Burke Cares, formerly the Continuum of Care. The focus of this collaborative group is to raise awareness, provide support and idently gaps in services for those who are hungry and homeless in Burke County. BCUW assists with the annual Point In Time Count and Hunger & Homeless Week.
